Hathaway Augusta 8-ft Pool Table - Mahogany Finish with Red Felt
Shipping & Delivery
Overview
The Augusta is Hathaway's traditional 8-ft billiard table, built on a maple veneer cabinet with a multi-step mahogany furniture finish and ball-and-claw leg detail. The playing surface is 88 in L x 44 in W at 1 in thick — a depth that provides consistent ball rebound without the flex and dead-spot variability of thinner playfields. Cabinet dimensions are 100.5 in L x 55 in W x 32.5 in H at 352.5 lb. Ships LTL freight in a single 420 lb carton.
Construction includes a 4-in wide finger-jointed support beam system, steel gussets and truss braces, K-55 rubber cushions, and blended nylon felt in red. An impact-resistant anchoring system locks the leg assembly to the cabinet frame. Full accessory kit included: 2 pool cues (57 in), bridge head and stick, ball set, chalk, table brush, and racking triangle. 180-day limited warranty. Rated for ages 8 and up. Assembly approximately 75 minutes.
Construction
The 88 in x 44 in playing surface is 1 in thick engineered wood. At this depth, the surface resists warping under seasonal humidity changes — the primary long-term playability issue on thinner playfields that develop high and low spots over time.
Four-inch wide finger-jointed support beams run longitudinally beneath the playfield. Finger joints interlock the beam sections mechanically before adhesive is applied, producing a bond stronger than either material alone — the same joint used in structural lumber for span applications.
Steel gussets at each leg-to-cabinet joint and truss braces across the frame resist the racking forces generated during break shots. A steel anchoring system locks the leg assembly to the cabinet body — preventing the leg-shift that occurs on cheaper tables when the frame settles after assembly.
K-55 profile rubber cushions are the industry standard for residential and light commercial tables. K-55 delivers consistent angle response across the full cushion face, which means rebound angles remain predictable regardless of where the ball contacts the rail.
Cabinet exterior is maple veneer finished in a multi-step mahogany stain. Multi-step finishing applies stain and topcoat in separate passes — producing depth and grain clarity that single-pass finishes on MDF laminate cannot replicate.
The decorative ball-and-claw foot carving at each leg base is a traditional furniture motif that positions the Augusta as a furniture piece rather than equipment. Leg levelers are integrated into each leg base for compensation on uneven floors.
Buyer's Guide
The standard competition pool table is 9 ft. The Augusta at 8 ft provides a playfield (88 in x 44 in) close to competition scale — the cue ball travels approximately 7.3 ft before reaching the far rail versus 8.2 ft on a 9-ft table. For most residential game rooms, the 8-ft table is the practical maximum: it requires approximately 168 in of room length and 132 in of room width when you account for 58 in of cue clearance on all four sides.
The 1-in playfield on the Augusta is the primary specification distinction between this table and mid-range 8-ft tables, which typically use 0.75 in surfaces. The extra 0.25 in of engineered wood depth adds mass at the playing surface and resists the center-field sag that develops in thinner tables over time. The ball-and-claw leg detail and multi-step mahogany finish are design choices relevant if the table will be visible from adjacent living spaces or a dining room. LTL freight delivery requires a ground-level receiving location and signing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much room do I need for an 8-ft pool table?
Allow 58 in of cue clearance on all four sides — the standard 57-in cue length plus 1 in to account for stance. That brings the minimum room to approximately 168 in x 132 in (14 ft x 11 ft).
Is the surface slate or engineered wood?
Engineered wood at 1 in thick. Slate tables typically start at $3,000+; the Augusta's 1-in playfield provides close to slate-level consistency at a residential price point.
What type of cushions does this table use?
K-55 rubber cushions — the standard profile for residential and light commercial billiard tables.
Does this ship by freight or parcel?
LTL freight — 420 lb. Requires a receiving signature and ground-level access.
What accessories are included?
2 pool cues (57 in), aluminum bridge head, bridge stick, standard ball set, chalk x2, table brush, and racking triangle.
What is the warranty term?
180-day limited warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials under normal residential use.
