Overview

RAM Raid 2-Piece 58" Break Cue built by Falcon to take the impact.

The Raid break cue runs a 13.5mm tip and a black phenolic ferrule because breaking is the one shot in pool where the cue gets punished. A standard playing tip mushrooms and softens after a few thousand breaks; phenolic transfers energy hard, holds its shape under repeated impact, and keeps shaping money on the rack instead of off the cue. That single spec is why a dedicated break cue exists.

Built by Falcon Cues for RAM Game Room with a selected Canadian maple shaft, a 14-thread joint, and the R650 low-deflection profile. Finished in an army camouflage design at a standard 19oz weight — sized for the average break stroke without forcing the user to learn a new cue weight between racks.

Construction

Engineered around the hardest shot in the game.

0113.5mm Phenolic Tip

Phenolic is roughly four times harder than standard leather. It returns more of the stroke's force into the cue ball, producing higher break speeds with the same effort and refusing to flatten over time the way a soft tip does.

02Black Phenolic Ferrule

The ferrule absorbs the shock of every break before it reaches the wood. Phenolic at this junction resists cracking and chipping where lesser materials split under repeated maximum-force shots.

03Selected Canadian Maple Shaft

Canadian hard rock maple is the species cue makers settle on for the same reason hockey stick makers do — straight grain, low moisture absorption, and consistent rigidity. Hand-selected blanks reduce warp and dead spots.

04R650 Low-Deflection Profile

Even on the break, English happens — accidentally or deliberately. The R650 shaft profile reduces cue-ball deflection so the break delivers the line you aimed, not a curve into the side rail.

0514-Thread Joint and Insert

A 14-thread joint with metal inserts seats the two halves under heavy torque without loosening between racks. The contact patch stays flush, so vibration transfers through the cue as a single piece.

0619oz Standard Weight

Heavier than a typical playing cue (18–19oz vs. 19–21oz on a play cue is a misconception — break cues run lighter so the swing can be faster). 19oz hits the sweet spot for swing speed and momentum transfer for most adult players.

Buyer's Guide

Why your playing cue is the wrong tool for breaking.

A single hard break with a soft leather tip and a wood ferrule does real, measurable damage — the tip compresses, the ferrule develops micro-cracks, and within a few hundred breaks the cue's playing characteristics start drifting. Players who care about position and English on regular shots protect their playing cue by switching to a dedicated break cue for the open shot.

The Raid runs phenolic from tip to ferrule because that's the material spec that survives repeated 25+ mph impacts. If a break cue is using anything softer at those two points, it's either compromising break power or compromising its own lifespan.

The 13.5mm tip is on the larger side — wider contact patch means more forgiveness on miscues during the break, which is where bad position errors typically happen. Combined with the R650 low-deflection shaft, the Raid is designed to give intermediate and serious players a break tool that delivers consistent results without the deflection issues that plague stiffer break cues.

Compare this against entry-level break cues with leather tips and brass ferrules: the Raid's phenolic construction is the actual difference between a cue that breaks well for two years and one that needs re-tipping by the end of the first season.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Can I use this cue for regular play instead of just breaking?

It will function as a playing cue, but the phenolic tip won't grip the cue ball the way a leather tip does, making English and draw shots significantly harder to execute. The Raid is purpose-built as a break-only cue and pairs with a separate playing cue in the same Falcon RAID series.

How does the 13.5mm tip compare to standard cue tip sizes?

Most playing cues run 12.5mm–13mm. The 13.5mm on the Raid is intentionally wider for two reasons — break shots benefit from a larger contact patch for energy transfer, and the slightly larger tip is more forgiving on the miscues that often happen during hard breaks.

What is R650 low deflection?

R650 refers to Falcon's proprietary shaft profile designed to reduce cue ball deflection when applying side English. On a break, even unintended English will push the cue ball off your aim line — low-deflection construction means the cue ball travels closer to where you actually aimed.

Will the phenolic tip damage my cue ball?

No. Phenolic tips are tournament-legal in most leagues including BCA and APA. They produce louder break impacts than leather tips but do not damage standard phenolic resin or acrylic cue balls.

Does this come in different weights?

The Raid Break Cue ships in a standard 19oz configuration. Weight tolerance on individual cues is typically ±0.25oz from the listed spec.

Who manufactures the Raid Break Cue?

The Raid line is manufactured by Falcon Cues — a long-established cue maker — and branded for RAM Game Room. The R650 shaft technology and Canadian maple sourcing are part of Falcon's standard production process.
