Overview

Hathaway Austin 9-ft Shuffleboard Table white maple veneer surface, solid poplar corners, 1.5-in playfield, mahogany finish.

The Austin is a 9-ft shuffleboard table built from a different material combination than the Challenger and Merlot series. The 95.5 in L x 16 in W playing surface is 1.5-in engineered wood covered in white maple veneer — the same veneer treatment used on commercial pub shuffleboard tables. The wider 16-in playing surface (versus 15 in on the Challenger and Merlot) changes scoring zone geometry, making cross-court puck positioning slightly more difficult. Cabinet is MDF and veneer in a mahogany finish with solid poplar wood corner construction. Dimensions are 110.25 in L x 24.75 in W x 31.5 in H at 214.06 lb.

Climate adjusters and independent leg levelers standard. Ships LTL in 2 cartons at 250 lb combined. Assembly approximately 30 minutes. Includes 4 black pucks, 4 red pucks, table brush, and wax. 180-day limited warranty.

01White Maple Veneer Playing Surface

The 95.5 in x 16 in surface is engineered wood covered in white maple veneer. Maple veneer is the standard surface material on commercial pub shuffleboard tables — the tight, even grain of maple provides a consistent glide surface that standard MDF laminate cannot match.

0216-in Playing Width

At 16 in wide, the Austin's playing surface is 1 in wider than the 15-in surface on the Challenger and Merlot. This 1-in difference slightly narrows the clearance between the scoring zones and the gutter rails, making close-edge puck placement more precise to execute.

03Solid Poplar Wood Corners

The four cabinet corners are solid poplar — a structural hardwood that resists the impact and compression loads at corners better than MDF alone. Solid wood corners maintain their shape under the repeated contact that occurs during puck retrieval and game play.

043/4-in Side and End Aprons

Side and end aprons — the cabinet panels that form the table's perimeter boundary — are 3/4 in thick solid wood. Thick aprons resist the flex that develops under table surface load in thinner apron constructions, maintaining frame rigidity throughout the table's service life.

05Climate Adjusters and Leg Levelers

Integrated climate adjusters compensate for surface bow from humidity changes. Independent leg levelers on each pedestal allow precise leveling on uneven floors. 30-minute assembly is the fastest in Hathaway's 9-ft shuffleboard lineup.

06Mahogany Finish

Cabinet is MDF and veneer in a mahogany finish. The mahogany palette pairs with traditional game room furniture and complements dark wood flooring common in finished basements and home pub spaces.

The Austin costs $500 more and delivers: white maple veneer surface (versus butcher block), a 16-in wide playing field (versus 15 in), solid poplar corner construction, and 3/4-in thick aprons. The Challenger includes pedestal storage legs that the Austin does not have. At $500 premium, the Austin is the better playing specification; the Challenger provides built-in accessory storage.

Room requirement for a 9-ft table: the 110.25-in cabinet (9.2 ft) needs approximately 13.2 ft of floor length with 2 ft of standing clearance at each end. This is achievable in most 14-ft rooms. At 214.06 lb, two people are needed for assembly and any repositioning. LTL freight in 2 cartons at 250 lb requires a ground-level receiving location.
