Hathaway Surface Ice Shuffleboard Wax
Shipping & Delivery
Overview
Surface Ice is Hathaway's medium-fast speed shuffleboard wax — formulated for tables with conditioned surfaces where players prefer a faster glide response than medium-speed powder provides. The 16-oz can uses a silicone and sand blend that creates a faster puck response than the wax-and-cornmeal formula of Sun Glo medium speed. Adjustable sprinkler top for even surface application. Ships small parcel at 2 lb.
For wooden shuffleboard surfaces. No warranty. Rated for ages 3 and up.
Construction
Surface Ice uses silicone and sand rather than the wax and cornmeal formula in Sun Glo medium speed. Silicone particles produce lower surface friction than cornmeal at the same application weight, resulting in faster puck speed for a given throwing force.
Faster than Sun Glo medium but not at the maximum end of the speed spectrum. Appropriate for tables that have been conditioned through 15–20 sessions of play and for players who have developed throwing force control sufficient to stop pucks in scoring zones at higher speeds.
Same adjustable sprinkler application as Sun Glo — slide open for application, slide closed to seal between sessions.
16 oz — the same size as Sun Glo medium speed. One can provides multiple game sessions of coverage on a 9-ft table.
Designed for wooden shuffleboard surfaces — butcher block, birchwood veneer, and lacquered wood. Not for composite or outdoor-rated surfaces.
If medium-speed play produces pucks that consistently stop short of the far scoring zone or consistently overshoot the near zone, Surface Ice fast speed is the adjustment — it adds glide without requiring a change in throwing technique.
Buyer's Guide
New shuffleboard tables should be broken in with medium-speed powder (Sun Glo BG1221) during the first 10–15 sessions. The surface lacquer or coating needs to be worked by puck contact before it achieves its optimum glide characteristics. Switching to fast-speed powder (Surface Ice) before the surface is conditioned produces inconsistent results because the uneven surface coating creates variable friction points that fast-speed powder amplifies rather than smooths.
After conditioning, use Surface Ice when: players are using a 12-ft or 14-ft table where medium-speed powder does not deliver enough glide to reach the far scoring zone consistently, the room temperature drops significantly below 65°F (cold slows puck speed on medium powder), or the table surface shows wear in the center lane that creates faster-than-expected glide in the worn zone. Both wax products ship small parcel under 3 lb with no freight appointment required.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does this compare to Sun Glo medium speed (BG1221)?
Surface Ice is faster — silicone and sand formula versus wax and cornmeal. Use Sun Glo for new or unconditioned tables and for players preferring more control. Use Surface Ice for conditioned tables or faster game pace.
When should I switch from medium to fast speed?
After 15–20 sessions of breaking in the table surface, or when pucks consistently stop short of the far scoring zone on a properly conditioned table.
Can this be used on the outdoor Crestline table?
No — designed for wooden indoor surfaces only.
Is a warranty included?
No warranty is included.
Does this ship by freight or parcel?
Small parcel — 2 lb.
How long does one can last?
Approximately 15–20 game sessions on a 9-ft table, fewer on longer tables.
