Overview

Halo: Fireteam Raven in a 49-Inch-Wide Cabinet two force-feedback assault rifles, one 55-inch screen.

Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix built this edition with Microsoft to put Halo: Fireteam Raven into rooms that cannot surrender floor space to an enclosed attraction. Installed, the cabinet occupies 49 inches of wall and 65 inches of depth, and both players stand at a single 55-inch display with force-feedback rifles modeled on the Halo Assault Rifle. The campaign runs through the events of Halo: Combat Evolved from the position of the ODST soldiers of Fireteam Raven, fighting alongside Master Chief across six levels against the Covenant and the Flood.

Assembled height is where most installations run into trouble first: 105 inches, or 8 feet 9 inches, taller than a standard 8-foot ceiling. Power is modest by comparison, at 5 amps on 120V/60Hz or 3 amps on 230V/50Hz. Freight arrives as two pallets, a 375 lb main cabinet and a 225 lb pedestal, which together account for the published 600 lb location weight.

Construction

How the Two-Player Tethered Cabinet Is Built

01One 55-Inch Display, Two Players

A single 55-inch panel serves both stations, so the two players work the same image instead of a smaller screen each. In a rail shooter where both guns are tracking the same Covenant push, that shared view is what lets one player call a target the other can actually find, and the cabinet's 65-inch depth sets the stand-back distance that keeps a 55-inch picture readable from both positions.

02Force-Feedback Halo Assault Rifle Controllers

Both guns are modeled on the Halo Assault Rifle and both carry force feedback, so recoil arrives through the shell the player is already holding rather than through the cabinet. The silhouette also does recruiting work on a location floor: the rifle is recognizable from across a room, before anyone is close enough to read a word of the artwork.

03Tethered Rifles, Open Cabinet

The rifles are tethered to the cabinet rather than housed inside an enclosed environmental structure, which is what holds the installed footprint to 49 by 65 inches. Fireteam Raven is also built as a 4-player tethered cabinet and as a 2-player environmental cabinet; this is the two-player tethered build, and its published dimensions are its own.

04105-Inch Installed Height

Location height is 105 inches, which is 8 feet 9 inches. Under a 10-foot commercial ceiling that figure never comes up; under 8-foot basement joists it is a hard stop. The number that decides it is the clearance under the lowest duct, beam, or light fixture directly over the intended spot, not the nominal ceiling height of the room.

05Cabinet and Pedestal on Separate Pallets

The machine ships as two pallets: the main cabinet at 88 by 53 by 37 inches and 375 lbs, and the pedestal at 46 by 49 by 37 inches and 225 lbs. Two pieces mean two lifts on the way in, and they also mean the tallest item coming off the truck is 88 inches rather than the 105-inch assembled height.

06120V and 230V Configurations

The cabinet is specified at 5 amps on 120V/60Hz and 3 amps on 230V/50Hz. Five amps leaves a standard 15-amp North American circuit with room for other equipment on the same run, which is the practical question in a route location where the nearest outlet is already carrying something else.

Buyer's Guide

What to Measure Before You Order

Start with the vertical measurement, because it is the one no layout change can solve. At 105 inches assembled, this cabinet wants a ceiling above 8 feet 9 inches plus working room to raise it during assembly. Measure to the lowest obstruction over the position the cabinet will occupy rather than to the highest point in the room, and check that the 88-inch main pallet can travel the same route upright on a jack or dolly before anything is unpacked.

Then measure the way in against the pallets, not the assembled cabinet. Both pallets are 37 inches across their short side, so a 36-inch residential doorway is too narrow for either as packed, and the main pallet's 53-inch width leaves no room to swing it broadside in a tight hallway or a stair turn. The 49-inch assembled width is the figure most buyers plan around, and it is not the figure that has to clear the doorframe.

The format decision comes before the spec sheet. Fireteam Raven is published in three builds: 2-player tethered, 4-player tethered, and 2-player environmental. They are not one machine at three prices. The environmental version wraps its players inside a structure, while this one puts two tethered rifles on an open cabinet that stands in 49 by 65 inches, or about 22 square feet of floor. For an operator working a fixed floor plan, or a home buyer working inside one wall, that 22 square feet is the number that earnings per square foot are calculated against.

Electrically there is little to plan around: 5 amps at 120V/60Hz, or 3 amps at 230V/50Hz where the local supply runs at 50 Hz. The 600 lb installed weight spread over roughly 22 square feet is an easy load for a commercial slab and worth a moment's thought on a wood-framed upper floor. That 600 lbs is also why the two-pallet split is useful: the heaviest single piece to move is the 375 lb cabinet, not the finished machine.

FAQ

Questions Buyers Ask

What ceiling height does the assembled cabinet need?

Installed height is 105 inches, or 8 feet 9 inches, and the ceiling has to clear that plus enough room to stand the cabinet up during assembly. A standard 8-foot ceiling will not take it. Measure to the lowest duct, beam, or light fixture directly above the position you plan to use.

How does it ship, and will the pallets fit through a standard doorway?

It ships on two pallets. The main cabinet pallet is 88 inches high, 53 inches wide, and 37 inches deep at 375 lbs; the pedestal pallet is 46 inches high, 49 inches wide, and 37 inches deep at 225 lbs. Neither will pass through a 36-inch doorway as packed, because 37 inches is the smaller of the two footprint dimensions on both pallets.

What are the power requirements?

120V/60Hz at 5 amps, or 230V/50Hz at 3 amps. Five amps at 120V sits comfortably on a standard 15-amp circuit with capacity left for other equipment on the same run.

How is this different from the 2-player environmental edition?

This is the tethered gun build: two force-feedback rifles tethered to an open cabinet with a 55-inch display, standing 49 inches wide by 65 inches deep and 105 inches tall. Fireteam Raven is also produced as a 4-player tethered cabinet and as a 2-player environmental cabinet, which enclose or seat their players differently and publish their own dimensions and weights. The figures on this page apply to the 2-player tethered cabinet only.

What does the game itself consist of?

Six levels set during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, played from the perspective of the ODST soldiers of Fireteam Raven, fighting alongside Master Chief against the Covenant and the Flood. Two players share the 55-inch display, each holding a force-feedback gun modeled after the Halo Assault Rifle.

What does the warranty cover?

One (1) year on game electronics, meaning the computer, the monitor PCB, and the electronic PCBs, and ninety (90) days on all other game components. Both periods run from date of purchase. Betson Imperial is a Raw Thrills factory-authorized service center and honors the warranty; warranty parts and repairs are processed through Betson by advance replacement or an RMA.
