The 78-inch span and four shades are not arbitrary — they're the dimensions that produce even, shadow-free illumination across a 9-foot regulation pool table. Anything shorter on a 9-foot table leaves the head and foot rails noticeably dimmer than the middle; anything with fewer shades creates hard spots between the lights where the cue ball casts a hard shadow.

01Four Pendant Shades on Linear Bar

Four shades spaced along a 78-inch bar distribute illumination evenly across a 100-inch playing surface. Three-shade fixtures leave gaps; four-shade fixtures cover the table from rail to rail.

Buyer's Guide

Sizing a billiard light to your table.

The general rule: the fixture should extend roughly two-thirds the length of the playing surface, centered over the table. On a 9-foot table (100-inch playing surface), that puts the ideal fixture span between 66 and 78 inches.

The 78-inch PR78 sits at the upper end of that range — it gives near-end-to-end coverage and looks proportionate to the table's mass. A shorter fixture would technically work but visually undersized fixtures look like an afterthought.

Mounting height is the BCA-recommended 30–36 inches above the playing surface. With 3-foot suspension chains and 8-foot ceilings, you'll land in that range without modification. Taller ceilings require longer chains (available separately from any lighting supplier).

Match the finish to whatever metal is already in the room — the table's leg hardware, nearby cue racks, the cocktail bar trim. Coordinated finishes read as intentional design; mismatched finishes read as accidental.

What size table is the PR78 designed for?

The 78-inch span is sized for 9-foot regulation pool tables. On an 8-foot table it will work but reads as slightly oversized; on a 9-foot table the proportions are correct and the four shades cover the playing surface evenly.

What's the difference between MB/MB and MB/ST finishes?

MB/MB is matte black on both the bar and the shades — a uniform silhouette. MB/ST keeps the matte black bar but adds polished stainless accents on the shade caps, creating contrast and visual depth.

Can I use LED bulbs?

Yes. The 150W maximum is the upper limit for incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs draw far less wattage to produce equivalent light output, so any standard Edison-base LED in any output range will work safely.

What's the right mounting height above the table?

The BCA-recommended distance is 30 to 36 inches from the bottom of the fixture to the playing surface. The 3-foot chains and 14-inch fixture height land in this range with a standard 8-foot ceiling.
